Organization
and work
The State Health care system in Russia is in a continual
state of crisis. Therefore it is often not in the position
to provide the necessary help to many of its patients particularly
children.
The Russian
Clinical Children Hospital (RCCH) of Moscow is no exception
and is in dire need of support.
The major problem is the lack of Government funding for State
Health care to cover both medication & treatment.
For example in the department of Hematology medicines and treatments
are only covered by the
state for the children whos original diagnosis is aplastic
anemia.
If the child does not have a positive reaction to the first course
of treatment then the States financial subsidy to enable
further necessary treatment & medication will be withdrawn
(In this case the total cost of treatment & medication would
amount to around USD 25,000 - 30,000). Should this occur the child
must then rely purely on need financial support from elsewhere.
Many
children suffering from myeloblaste leukemia are urgently in need
of a bone marrow transplant. Such an operation would costs around
USD 40,000 - 50,000. In this case the Government would cover more
than 50% of these costs. Nevertheless the operation is still not
possible without the assistance of financial sponsorship from
another source.
In the Kidney's transplantation center countless children need
peritoneal dialysis (purification of the kidneys through the use
specialist equipment). The cost of this treatment is expensive
(USD 10,000 - 20,000 per year) and is not covered by the State
at all, instead the cost must be borne by the family.
Ironically the childs illness has been diagnosed the necessary
medication & treatment are identified however due to the lack
of funding the treatment cannot be administered.
Many of these children come from families where the parents earn
as much in a month as we would spend for just one dinner. That's
why our help is really a necessity.
Since 1989 hospital (RCCH) has been cooperating with the Charity
Group, which consists purely of volunteers it supports children
through a various & diverse activities: from providing the
life saving medicine & treatments to allowing the children
to visit museums and theaters.
Organization"Save Russian Child" was also founded on the basis
to provide help to seriously ill children who are currently in
RCCH. |
