A message from hematolog@googlegroups.com: Short ago there was a successful auto-transplantation done to Dima Shpakov! The stem cell was taken from Dima’s vertebra; the original bone marrow was demolished and then the original stem cell was implanted back. The operation was conducted in the Department of Hematology of the onco-hematological center of the Ukrainian children's specialized hospital MZO of the Ukraine (Okhmadet) in Kiev.

At the moment the boy stays at home during the continuing supportive and rehabilitative treatment. A periodical check up finds a place each week in the Okhmadet hospital.

A little boy Dima Shpakov is only three years old. He is very sympatric and merry little-one. And there is only one big BUT in his life - he is heavily sick, suffering from a heavy, but luckily curable disease – blood cancer.

First time Dima felt ill when he was only four months old. And from that moment the long and complex process of formulating the diagnosis has began. Every time more and more new illnesses were found, he was put into the hospital and treated several times. The boy was getting well, but not for a long time. Then again - hospital, doctors, treatments, pain. And in the end, last fall, terrible diagnosis - leukemia.

Again hospital, this time seriously and for a longer time. The basic course of treatment - chemotherapy lasts for six-eight months. But then, possibly, a bone marrow transplantation will be required. Dima holds himself brave. He strongly wishes to live and fights for each day of his life.

Certainly, the department of the intensive chemotherapy of Kiev’s hospital "Okhmadet", has medicines, but unfortunately, far from being sufficient for everyone. Much more has to be bought buy in addition by the patients self. Unfortunately, the cost of preparations necessary for treating Dima considerably exceeds his parents’ financial possibilities. This fact forces them to apply for our help. Any aid, how insignificant it might like, will give more chance to survive to this little-one.

Thank you in advance for any help and participation in the fate of Dima!
